Cheese Onion Uttappa

The transition has been slow. However, it has been a great leap from the time when I used to love the “cheese onion uttappa” that they serve in Vaishali. I still remember thinking innumerable times before actually treating myself to that dish while I was studying engineering. This particular uttappa used to cost me Rs. 30 then and hence the expense (huge for me then) used to be reserved for some special times. There were times when I actually calculated the number of times I would walk half way home to save some money for that small little delight.

I am sure there are souls who just might not be able to relate to what I am trying to say out here. But, life as it is, is not a bed of roses for each one of us. I have had my share of good moments, yes I have! But, the bad times significantly outweighed the good ones. My engineering memories mostly include hour long waits at 2 different bus stops because I took 4 buses a day to commute to college. Then there were the walks from an “x” place to “y” place. Those always left me with the little extra cash that I needed for various reasons. And then there were those “you carry on, I have work I need to finish” statements made when friends went out to eat or something like that.

These and such thoughts crossed and re-crossed my mind when I went to Vaishali a couple of days back. For one, I am in my home town at leisure after ages. And getting to sit alone in Vaishali devouring my “cheese onion uttappa” is almost impossible in normal circumstances. Sitting there all by myself I thought of where I come from and where life has taken me. I mean, it is still a beginning. There is still so much more to do. But the difference between that guy who desperately wanted his engineering course to get over so he could start earning and the one right now between ISB and a new beginning is huge.

Life has been generous…!!!
